The Mallorcan Institute of Social Affairs (IMAS) has unveiled the project “Best Practices in Basic Community Social Services of Mallorca”, an initiative designed to recognise, share, and promote successful social projects developed by municipal social services across the island.

The presentation, attended by mayors and representatives from 53 municipalities, was led by Guillermo Sánchez, Minister for Social Welfare and President of IMAS. He emphasised that “the goal is to acknowledge the daily work of municipal teams and create a space for sharing experiences, learning from one another, and strengthening Mallorca’s social services network.”

Developed by the IMAS Community Prevention and Territorial Support Team, the project serves as both a technical support tool and a platform for institutional recognition. According to Apol·lònia Socias, Island Director of Social Services, Childhood and Family, this initiative “represents a step forward in building a culture of quality and continuous improvement in social services. Best practices not only enhance service delivery but also foster trust and credibility among citizens.”

The project is based on the principle of quality established by Law 4/2009 on Social Services of the Balearic Islands, which enshrines quality care as a right for users. It is organised around four key objectives:

  1. Identify outstanding practices within municipal social services.
  2. Share them through a centralised digital platform.
  3. Acknowledge the commitment and professionalism of social workers.
  4. Encourage cooperation and knowledge exchange between municipalities.

To facilitate participation, IMAS has created a dedicated online section where local councils can review approved best practices, submit new initiatives for evaluation by a technical committee, and access all necessary guidance and documentation.

“We want this website to be a dynamic and practical tool that showcases the excellent work being done across Mallorca’s municipalities and promotes mutual learning,” explained Socias.

Projects officially recognized as “best practices” will receive a metacrylate plaque as a symbol of institutional recognition and quality in social management.

“This initiative is an opportunity to support local governments, promote innovation, and strengthen the public social services system of Mallorca,” concluded Minister Guillermo Sánchez.
