The Department of Education and Universities has been authorised to launch the 2025 Postdoctoral Research Contracts Program, aimed at incorporating new researchers into the science, technology, and innovation system of the Balearic Islands. The total budget for this initiative amounts to €3,327,772.03.
The funding will support 25 postdoctoral positions, distributed across the programs Margalida Comas (14 grants for junior researchers), Vicenç Mut (10 for senior researchers), and Felip Bauçà (1 for private companies). The primary objective is to strengthen the Balearic research ecosystem, promote stable employment, and enhance the region’s scientific competitiveness.

Over €3.3 million allocated to recruit postdoctoral researchers in the Balearic Islands
A key update in this year’s call is the extension of Margalida Comas’ contracts from two to three years, providing greater job stability and continuity for early-career researchers.
Additionally, the program includes a 100% advance payment of the grants, with no requirement for financial guarantees, to ensure the swift incorporation of researchers and smooth project implementation. This measure helps level the playing field among institutions, recognising that research centres, universities, and innovative SMEs often face liquidity challenges when covering salary costs in advance.
The program is co-funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) 2021–2027, under the objective of improving access to employment and strengthening R&D capacity in the Balearic Islands.
