The Department of Economy and General Services of the Consell Insular de Menorca has approved a multi-year agreement with the Technological Institute of Jewellery (ITEB) to promote industrial innovation and competitiveness on the island between 2025 and 2027.

The agreement includes a €60,000 investment, distributed over three years (€20,000 per year), to carry out the comprehensive renovation of the ITEB’s main and annex buildings. The aim is to modernize the facilities and enhance the institute’s service capacity, as the current infrastructure, though still operational, shows structural and functional deficiencies.

Economy allocates €60,000 to the Menorca Technological Institute of Jewellery to boost industrial innovation and competitiveness

Founded in 1979 as a non-profit organisation, the ITEB was created to foster innovation within Menorca’s jewellery and fashion-accessory industry, a sector deeply rooted in the island’s economy. Over time, it has expanded its scope to provide environmental management and laboratory services to other key economic areas, including the hospitality and footwear industries.

The Councillor for Economy and General Services, Maria Antònia Taltavull, stated that “this collaboration is not merely an infrastructure improvement but a direct investment in the competitiveness and sustainability of Menorca’s business ecosystem. The ITEB plays a vital role in driving the modernisation of our industrial sectors, and ensuring its viability brings significant economic and social returns to the island.”

Through this initiative, the Consell Insular de Menorca reinforces its commitment to sustainable economic development, focusing on technological innovation, business modernisation, and support for local institutions that strengthen the productivity and competitiveness of Menorca’s key industries.
In addition to its leadership in promoting innovation within the jewellery sector, the ITEB also serves as the Official Precious Metals Laboratory and as an authorised waste manager since 1995, providing essential technical services across multiple industries on the island.
