(October 22, 2025)The Consell of Mallorca and the Balearic Football Federation (FFIB) have launched a new campaign to encourage respect, fair play, and education across the island’s youth football scene.

Under the slogan “We have a social commitment: to end violence”, the initiative aims to prevent shouting, insults, and aggressive behaviour towards referees, players, and coaches, with special focus on involving families and clubs.

The Consell and FFIB promote respect and education in Mallorcan grassroots football

The presentation event took place at the Antonio Asensio Sports City and was attended by Minister of Sports Pedro Bestard, Sports Director Toni Prats, FFIB President Jordi Horrach, and Referee Committee President Javier Martín.

Five top-level referees —Amy Peñalver, Guillermo Cuadra, Mateo Busquets, Diego Martínez, and Francisco de Asís Vidal— will serve as the faces and voices of the campaign. Vidal delivered the opening speech for the new season, stressing the importance of spreading positive values both on and off the pitch.

Messages such as “Respect!”, “Don’t insult!”, and “Cheer positively!” will appear on the uniforms of 350 grassroots referees and on screens in sports venues, as well as across social media and schools. Over 33,000 children and young people will take part in workshops and educational programmes organised by the Consell.

“It’s time to say enough to verbal violence in football,” said Minister Bestard. “We want to teach respect from an early age, because this is everyone’s responsibility — institutions, clubs, and families alike.”

Mallorca’s grassroots football currently boasts 37,000 registered players, 154 clubs, and more than 200,000 spectators, making it a powerful platform to promote social and educational values among young people.
