Mallorca to Host the Alliance of World Heritage Cultural Landscapes and Related Sites at the World Travel Market London 2025
The Serra de Tramuntana, as a World Heritage Cultural Landscape, currently holds the presidency of the Alliance and, under the leadership of the Consell de Mallorca, is spearheading a new phase of expansion and international visibility. Within this framework, Mallorca will host the Alliance at the next edition of the World Travel Market London 2025, one of the world’s leading tourism fairs.
The Council will allocate a space within its stand for the Alliance to showcase its work and values, demonstrating to the international audience how cultural landscapes can become drivers of balanced and sustainable development.
According to Toni Fuster, Minister of the Presidency:
“Mallorca is leading a new stage for the Alliance. We want this network to grow, to gain visibility, and to become the united voice of the territories managing World Heritage sites. Opening ourselves to the world from London is a strategic opportunity to convey that preserving is also advancing.”
He added:
“Visitors must understand that they are not simply discovering any place, but a World Heritage site—and that their role is essential in preserving it. Being part of the World Heritage List turns these places into a shared right of humanity: we all have the right to experience them, but also the duty to protect them. This awareness and respect for the territory are crucial to ensure that these landscapes remain alive and protected in the future.”
This initiative underlines the importance of linking responsible tourism with the preservation of cultural landscapes, promoting a model that makes sustainability and local identity key attractions. For this reason, all territories forming part of the Alliance share the responsibility of addressing the challenges of maintaining the authenticity of these spaces amid increasing visitor numbers.
The Alliance’s participation in the World Travel Market London 2025 will serve to promote this unique network of cultural landscapes and present a common narrative — that of territories which not only preserve their heritage but also integrate it into their sustainable development.
The Alliance of World Heritage Cultural Landscapes and Related Sites
The announcement was made by Toni Fuster, Minister of the Presidency, during the Board of Directors and General Assembly of the Alliance, held in Bilbao, next to the Vizcaya Bridge—an emblematic transporter bridge, the first of its kind in the world, still in operation today and connecting the towns of Portugalete and Getxo over the Nervión River estuary. The bridge was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2006.
The Alliance of World Heritage Cultural Landscapes and Related Sites is an initiative that seeks to connect different cultural landscapes and related places that illustrate the evolution of societies and human settlements over time, under the influence of natural environmental constraints or advantages, and the internal and external social, economic, and cultural forces that together have created a joint work of humanity and nature with outstanding universal value.
