Gabriel Ignacio Madrid has been awarded the top prize at the 2025 Mallorca Craft Awards for his piece titled “Algues.” The ceremony, held on Wednesday, October 29, at the Es Baluard Museu d’Art Contemporani in Palma, gathered hundreds of attendees and set a record total prize fund of €39,000.
The winning work, made of blown glass, stands out for its technical mastery and environmental awareness. Inspired by seaweed, it represents the deep connection between craftsmanship and Mallorcan nature. The jury highlighted the precision and ecological message embodied in the piece.

Pep Toni Ferrer’s career and the talent of young Mallorcan artisans are recognised
The Honorary Lifetime Craft Award went to master artisan Pep Toni Ferrer Ferrà of Paumes i Brins (Establiments), recognising his lifelong dedication to preserving traditional palm crafts. The Traditional Craft Award was given to Coloma María Cañellas Palou for El Belén, reviving the island’s siurell nativity scene tradition. Meanwhile, Roberto Paparcone Branchini received the Design and Innovation Award for Flora / Modular Ceremonial Totem, a work that merges conceptual art with traditional craftsmanship.
