On Sunday, November 16, the town of Ses Salines will become a large meeting space dedicated to Mallorca’s senior citizens during the 2nd Fira de la Gent Gran, organised by the Consell de Mallorca. The event, held from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., will offer a full day of health, wellness and community activities.

Following the success of last year’s first edition — which attracted over 2,500 participants from across the island — this year’s fair expands with an even richer programme including workshops, lectures, fitness sessions, theatre, dancing, and live music, culminating with a surprise closing concert.

The 2nd “Fira de la Gent Gran” by the Consell de Mallorca will turn Ses Salines into a major gathering for senior citizens

During the presentation, Toni Fuster, Councillor for the Presidency, alongside Ses Salines Mayor Guillem Mas, highlighted that “it is our duty to create spaces where older people can enjoy themselves, connect with others and feel truly valued.”

Activities will take place across different areas of the town:

  • Sant Bartomeu Church will host choral performances.
  • Sant Bartomeu Square will feature theatre shows.
  • The Town Hall will offer workshops on health and well-being.
  • Batle Andreu Burguera Street will hold association stands displaying handicrafts.
  • The Old Church (Església Vella) will host conferences by professionals from various fields.
  • And Plaça Major will be the setting for the festive closing event with a surprise musical performance.

The programme will include line dancing, ballroom dancing, traditional Mallorcan ball de bot, sevillanas, yoga, pilates and world dances, as well as first-aid and CPR demonstrations. Participants will also benefit from the expertise of professional organisations, including the College of Dietitians and Nutritionists, the Physiotherapists Association, Emergency Services 112 and Civil Protection, COLEF, the Grans Actius programme (FUEIB), the Fire Brigade of the Consell de Mallorca, and Emergency Service 061 with ambulance demonstrations and rescue dogs.

This year, the Consell will also honour individuals and organisations that work to support and empower older people across Mallorca.

Councillor Toni Fuster stated that “this fair is a celebration designed especially for our seniors — a day for them to meet, dance, move and enjoy life. Older people are a vital and active part of Mallorca, and the Consell is proud to stand beside them with initiatives like this.”

To encourage attendance, the Consell will provide free buses from different municipalities to Ses Salines throughout the day.
