The Island Council of Menorca has approved, through its Executive Council, a new cooperation agreement with the Menorca Association of Organic Farmers (APAEM), providing a maximum budget of €32,000 for the year 2025.
This initiative aims to promote sustainable and organic agriculture, encourage local product consumption, and preserve native crop varieties that are part of Menorca’s agricultural heritage.

Menorca Island Council strengthens its support for organic farming with a new agreement with APAEM for 2025
Organic farming is established as an environmentally friendly production model that adds high value to local products while promoting biodiversity, resource efficiency and a circular rural economy.
Key actions under the agreement
The agreement will fund APAEM’s activities from January 1 to December 31, 2025, including:
- Reactivation and management of the Menorca Local Seed Bank, created in 2006 with support from the Island Council, to conserve and promote native plant varieties.
- Organisation and participation in fairs, events and tasting sessions, to raise awareness of sustainable and local consumption.
- Training and advisory sessions on organic farming practices and regulations for producers and new entrants.
- Investment in infrastructure and management tools to improve the association’s efficiency.
- Promotional and communication activities, including radio programmes, educational materials and collaborations with agrarian entities.
This agreement reaffirms the Council’s long-term commitment to a sustainable agricultural model, supporting rural development, environmental stewardship and the growth of a resilient, eco-conscious economy in Menorca.
