A successful series of autumn sports retreats for seniors has wrapped up, drawing a total of 1,650 participants across seven sessions held in different parts of Mallorca throughout October.

President Llorenç Galmés, alongside Sports Councillor Pedro Bestard and Island Director Toni Prats, visited the final retreat of the year at Hotel Viva Cala Mesquida in Capdepera. Participants enjoyed activities such as Nordic walking, slingshot practice, fit dance, yoga, hiking, and even a traditional card game tournament.

Galmés emphasised that the initiative is part of the new sports program “Viu en gran!” (Live to the Full!), which aims to promote an active and social lifestyle among older adults: “Regular physical activity is crucial in this stage of life to prevent sedentary habits, tackle associated health issues, and avoid social isolation.”

Councillor Bestard highlighted the importance of collaboration with local communities: “These activities are designed to be enjoyed in groups, which provides both physical and emotional benefits for the elderly.”

Over the course of two days, each retreat offered a wide variety of sports and wellness activities in outdoor settings, with more than twenty different options such as Pilates, yoga, sunrise walks, mindfulness workshops, and strength training.

These retreats are part of the broader “Viu en gran!” program, which reached 16,000 participants in 2025, supported by an overall investment of 950,000 euros.
