Cultural and administrative institutions of the Balearic Islands have announced the installation of a sculpture paying tribute to Josep Maria Llompart, a key figure in Balearic literature and activism. The artwork, designed by Mallorcan sculptor Georgina Gamundí, will be placed at the corner of Carrer dels Oms and Carrer de la Missió in Palma, the birthplace of Llompart.

This joint initiative involves the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports; the Balearic Institute of Studies (IEB); Palma City Council; the Consell de Mallorca through the Mallorca Literary Foundation; and the Obra Cultural Balear (OCB). Each organisation contributed to the project: the City Council determined the design and location, the Consell handled production and installation, and the OCB coordinated the effort overall.

The publicly funded sculpture, owned by the regional government, will depict Llompart seated on a bench, symbolising his accessibility and civic commitment. The installation serves as the closing event of “Llompart Year,” a program highlighting the life and legacy of this poet, editor, and cultural activist who devoted himself to the Catalan language and Balearic culture.

The project was formally introduced at the La Misericòrdia Cultural Centre gardens, with the attendance of Jaume Bauzá, Antònia Roca, Javier Bonet, Antoni Llabrés, and the sculptor Georgina Gamundí.
