The Coastal Cleaning Service has completed its 2025 season by removing 36.8 tonnes of waste from the shores of the Balearic Islands—a 32% increase compared to 2024. The cleanup took place from May to September, over 153 active days, achieving a daily average of 269 kg collected.
Mallorca led with 17,520 kg of debris collected, followed by Ibiza (9,598 kg), Menorca (6,019 kg), and Formentera (3,667 kg). Calvià, Andratx, and Alcúdia were the top municipalities in Mallorca.
The operation involved 23 vessels (15 beach cleaners and 8 coastal boats), including a newly added unit in Alcúdia Bay. Plastic was the predominant waste material (44%), followed by wood (34%) and vegetation (8%).

Over the season, the service responded to 24 incident reports, including oil spills, drifting debris, and maritime safety events. The team also collaborated with research institutions such as SOCIB and the Spanish Oceanographic Institute, supporting studies on microplastics and jellyfish in Balearic waters.
