The island of Mallorca has seen a busy summer in its natural landscapes. Between May and September 2025, the Mallorca Fire Service carried out 115 mountain rescues, broken down as follows: 23 in May, 30 in June, 17 in July, 29 in August, and 16 in September.

Although similar to previous years, the total number shows a slight increase, linked to the growing number of residents and tourists engaging in outdoor activities like hiking and climbing.

For comparison, during 2024, firefighters handled 349 mountain rescues, 110 of them over the summer months.

The regional Minister of Finance, Innovation, and Public Service emphasised the key role of the recently deployed “Sa Milana” helicopter:

“Thanks to Sa Milana, average intervention times have dropped from five hours to under twenty minutes. Injured persons can now be airlifted straight to hospital faster than ever.”

The helicopter has dramatically improved response in hard-to-reach mountain areas, while also allowing for more efficient deployment of firefighter teams.

Since entering service in August, Sa Milana has taken part in 39 mountain rescues, as well as contributing to a search operation and tackling three vegetation fires.
