The Balearic Government today unveiled a commemorative book titled Memòries de l’albufera des Grau. Tradition, Research and Conservation to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Albufera de Es Grau Natural Park in Menorca.

The launch event, held at the Mahón Public Library, featured the participation of the Minister for Agriculture, Fishing, and Natural Environment, Joan Simonet, along with David Martínez, the park’s director, as well as the book’s authors and other stakeholders involved in the park’s stewardship.

Coordinated by Agnès Canals and Ariadna Ferrer, the book provides an in-depth examination of 30 years of history and preservation of this key natural area. Across seven chapters, it explores the historic relationship between the local community and the wetland, early conservation initiatives, scientific research, civic action for protection, and the evolution of the park’s management as part of Menorca’s Biosphere Reserve.

A public roundtable held during the presentation highlighted both the ecological and symbolic importance of Es Grau to the island.

As Minister Simonet remarked:

“This book is a tribute to three decades of shared dedication to nature and the identity of Menorca. Es Grau showcases how responsible management, scientific knowledge, and citizen involvement can come together to protect a unique natural heritage.”

The book is part of the “ESPAIS” collection, promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fishing, and Natural Environment, and is now available in public libraries across Menorca and in digital format on the official website of the Balearic Government.
