Over one hundred local police officers from across the Balearic Islands are taking part in the 2nd Technical Conference on Family Road Safety, held on November 6th and 7th in Alcúdia. Organised by the Public Safety Institute of the Balearic Islands (ISPIB) and the Balearic Public Administration School (EBAP), the training focuses on updating officers’ knowledge of Child Restraint Systems (CRS) and emergency response techniques involving children and pets.
The event includes 75 officers from Mallorca, 13 from Ibiza, 6 from Menorca, 1 from Formentera, and 22 additional specialists from traffic authorities, healthcare services, and local councils. Across two days, participants engage in both classroom and hands-on sessions, with a focus on child rescue operations in road traffic accidents involving cars and school buses.

Over 100 Local Police Officers in the Balearic Islands Train in Child Rescue and Family Road Safety in Alcúdia
One of the key activities is a simulated rescue following a collision between a school bus and a car, involving Mallorca Firefighters, Alcúdia Local Police, and medical teams from IB Salut’s emergency service (061). Attendees will also review the latest CRS technology and practice using the Pediatric Immobilisation and Extraction System (SIPE).
The program includes a specific module on the safe transport and rescue of pets, with an evaluation of the most effective restraint systems currently available.
Sessions are delivered by internationally recognised experts in road safety and rescue operations. The conference aims to enhance the technical skills of local police officers, enabling them to respond more effectively in real emergencies and to support educational and prevention initiatives targeting families and schools throughout the islands.
