The 2nd International Meeting of Elected Women, promoted by the Consell de Mallorca through the Mallorcan Cooperation Fund, came to a close today at the Mallorca Chamber of Commerce after two days of discussions, reflection, and collaboration among elected women, experts, and institutional representatives from Europe, Africa, and Latin America.
The closing ceremony featured the participation of Llorenç Galmés, President of the Consell de Mallorca; Antonia Maria Estarellas, Vice President and Councillor for Presidency and Local Cooperation, as well as Vice President of the Mallorcan Cooperation Fund; and Xelo Angulo, representative from the Confederation of Cooperation and Solidarity Funds (CONFOCOS).

Women Leaders in Local Politics Take the Spotlight as the 2nd International Meeting of Elected Women Concludes
President Galmés emphasised the significance of this event as a bridge between different global perspectives, united by the shared belief that meaningful change begins at the local level. He highlighted the pioneering program “Les Elegides” as a model that demonstrates how the active involvement of women in local politics is essential for advancing global agendas on gender equality and sustainability.
A day of dialogue, action, and gender-focused governance
The second day of the event featured several key discussions:
- “Leadership and Resilience in Local Politics”, addressing the challenges women face in public decision-making, including symbolic and media violence.
- “Parity: Between Challenge and Reality”, gathering testimonies from Peru, Senegal, Morocco, and Ireland on the progress and remaining obstacles in political representation.
- “Transforming Local Governance with a Gender Lens”, featuring innovative examples on how gender perspectives are being applied to public policies worldwide.
The afternoon session, “Elected Women: Transformation and Peace in Territories”, focused on the role of women in peacebuilding and social cohesion in vulnerable and conflict-affected areas, with insights from Palestine, Lebanon, Northern Ireland, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The event concluded with a collaborative session by the “Les Elegides” network, dedicated to reinforcing international partnerships and advancing a more inclusive and transformative local governance.
