The latest water report for the Balearic Islands shows that reserves remained stable in October, standing at 44%—unchanged from the previous month. However, the distribution between islands varies: Mallorca dropped slightly from 45% to 44%, Menorca rose from 41% to 43%, and Ibiza experienced a significant increase from 26% to 39%, largely thanks to heavy rainfall brought by the DANA Alice weather system. Formentera also saw a notable improvement.

Water reserves in the Balearic Islands hold steady at 44% in October

Despite recent gains, the region remains two points below last year’s level (46%). Most demand units remain under pre-alert or alert drought conditions, with only Formentera in the normal range. Although Ibiza has made considerable progress, it will need to sustain this trend in the coming weeks to shift out of alert status.

According to AEMET, October saw average rainfall of 80.4 l/m²—close to normal. Yet, Eivissa and Formentera recorded exceptionally high levels, including new daily precipitation records on October 11 during the passage of DANA Alice.

Temperatures were above average across the islands, with October classified as a warm month at a mean of 19.6°C (+0.7°C anomaly). Looking ahead, further increases in water reserves are expected in November, provided autumn rainfall continues as usual.
