The Government of the Balearic Islands has approved a multi-year budget of €21 million for the Public Broadcasting Corporation of the Balearic Islands (EPRTVIB). The funds aim to ensure that IB3, the regional public broadcaster, can maintain and strengthen its original productions throughout 2026 and 2027.
Promoted by the Ministry of Presidency, the initiative reinforces the Government’s commitment to the local audiovisual sector, supporting content created by Balearic production companies and fostering programming in Catalan. Under this model, IB3 does not produce programmes internally; instead, it commissions them from external companies, acquiring broadcast and distribution rights. Co-productions, joint projects and associated costs such as travel, technical services or accessibility are also included.

Balearic Government allocates €21 million to IB3 to secure in-house production for 2026 and 2027
According to the EPRTVIB’s supporting report, this approach contributes to a stable creative industry in the islands, adapts the broadcaster to current audiovisual consumption habits and ensures IB3’s presence both on traditional linear television and on digital platforms and OTT services. The initiative complies with the obligations set out in Law 15/2010 governing the public broadcaster and aligns with Spain’s General Audiovisual Communication Law.
The approved funding will be divided into two annual payments of €10.5 million. IB3 will be required to submit a detailed annual report on productions and expenditure. The measure follows a meeting with the Balearic Audiovisual Producers Association (APAIB), which had long called for stable multi-year planning.
With this decision, the Balearic Government strengthens a broadcasting model built on cultural identity, innovation and public service, positioning the islands as a growing creative hub.
