The winner of the 16th Visual Arts Competition – La Constancia Centro Instructivo has been announced today in Inca. This year’s prize has been awarded to sculptor Marcos Juncal for his piece “Alignment of Venus with Tennis Ball,” presented during the opening of the finalist exhibition at Sa Quartera Art Centre. Eleven works selected from a total of 58 submissions are now on display alongside the winning piece.

Juncal, born in Pontevedra in 1975 and currently based in Mallorca, has more than twenty years of artistic experience and has exhibited in cities such as Vigo, Madrid, Málaga, Valencia and London. He teaches Fine Arts at ADEMA University College.

His sculpture combines a tiled base, an oxidised metal tube and a reimagined Venus de Milo holding a tennis ball. According to the artist, this juxtaposition highlights “the delicate balance of our cultural heritage and the ongoing tension between the past and the present.”

A special mention has also been awarded to Tradicions inconsumibles by José Larrosa, a collection of nine printed ceramic tiles that reflects on how Balearic traditions persist in the face of tourism and globalisation.

The jury for this edition was composed of Antònia Maria Perelló Ferrer (Fundació Miró Mallorca), Maria Isabel Uribe (winner of the 2024 competition), Aina Ferrero (Museum of Footwear and Industry of Inca), and Miquel Gallego (Centro Instructivo La Constancia). The prize includes a financial award of €4,200.

Organised by the Inca City Council and La Constancia, the competition aims to support contemporary creation and foster the visibility of artists from the island and beyond.
