The Bit Foundation, together with the Directorate-General for Innovation and Digital Transformation, held a new edition of the “Science and Technology in Female Perspective” event today. The activities took place simultaneously at ParcBit in Mallorca, CentreBit Menorca, and, for the first time, CentreBit Ibiza, bringing together more than 250 secondary school students from across the islands.
Participants came from several educational centres: students from IES Madina Mayurqa in Mallorca; pupils from La Salle Maó and San Francisco de Asís in Ferreries in Menorca; and students from Santísima Trinidad School in Sant Antoni de Portmany in Ibiza.

Over 250 secondary students take part in the “Science and Technology from a Female Perspective” event organised by the Bit Foundation
The initiative, coordinated by the Spanish Association of Science and Technology Parks (APTE), is implemented in 19 technology parks across Spain. Its main goal is to encourage more young people—particularly girls—to pursue STEM studies in secondary and higher education.
Throughout the day, students took part in a broad programme of STEM-focused activities. One of the highlights was the round table “Why I chose to study STEM?”, opened by Sebastián González, Vice President of the Bit Foundation, and featuring four renowned Balearic scientists:
- Salud Deudero, marine biologist and director of the Balearic Oceanographic Centre (IEO-CSIC)
- María de Mar Muñoz, computer engineer and CEO of IT Travel Services
- Marta Pérez, environmental scientist and coordinator of Plastic Free Menorca Alliance
- Estella Matutes, medical doctor, PhD, and consultant at the Institute of Cancer Research and Royal Marsden Hospital in London
Students also visited the exhibitions “Women Who Changed the World” and “Women Changing the World”, which present historical and contemporary female role models to inspire future STEM careers.
The programme included hands-on workshops in robotics, 3D printing, Digicraft and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In the SDG workshop, students worked in teams to produce short videos proposing solutions related to health and well-being, with the chance to qualify for APTE’s national final in 2026.
With this eighth edition, the initiative strengthens its role as a key driver of STEM vocations in the Balearic Islands, especially with its expansion to Ibiza for the first time.
