Ports de les Illes Balears (PortsIB), under the Ministry of the Sea and Water Cycle, and the Manacor City Council have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at improving the management of the Residential Priority Zone (ZPR) in the harbour of Porto Cristo.

The primary objective of the agreement is to reduce vehicle traffic within the port area and enhance pedestrian safety, particularly between April and October, when the area experiences its highest influx of visitors.

Through this partnership, both institutions will coordinate the management of several port-owned streets included in the ZPR: Passeig des Riuet, Santa Maria Street, Francesc Ramis Square and Verí Street.

PortsIB and the Manacor City Council collaborate on managing the Residential Priority Zone in Porto Cristo’s harbour

The City Council had already approved in September 2020 the municipal ordinance governing residential priority zones—published in the Official Bulletin of the Balearic Islands (BOIB) in January 2021—which allows the implementation of urban areas with circulation restrictions to improve coexistence and public safety.

By formalising this agreement, both administrations reinforce their commitment to a port management model focused on safety, quality of life and environmental sustainability in the coastal areas of the Balearic Islands.
