The newly opened Mallorca Railway Museum, located in Son Carrió (Sant Llorenç des Cardassar), has launched with remarkable success. On its first open day, Wednesday the 12th, the museum was fully booked and had already received 1,253 reservations, filling all available slots through Sunday.

The project, promoted by Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM), the Ferrocaib Foundation and the Sant Llorenç Town Council, was officially inaugurated on Monday by the President of the Balearic Government, Margalida Prohens. During the winter season, the museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and admission is free during the opening week, though prior booking is required.

A maximum of 350 people can visit each day, divided into hourly groups of 50 visitors, due to the museum’s immersive experience format. To celebrate the opening, a community event will take place on Saturday, 15 November, featuring children’s workshops, family activities, live performances, inflatable games and a live steam engine demonstration.

An immersive project with a social mission

The museum is designed as an innovative, immersive environment, combining large-scale projections, holograms, surround sound, digital mapping and sensory effects, creating a unique experience in Europe.

Its management is led by 3 Salud Mental—formed by Estel de Llevant, Fundació Es Garrover and Asociación Girasol—three organisations with decades of experience supporting people with mental health conditions and their families. This makes the museum not only a space for heritage preservation but also a model of social inclusion and community engagement.

The initiative, promoted by the public railway company SFM along with the regional Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports, the Sant Llorenç Town Council and the Ferrocaib Foundation, represents an investment of nearly €3.7 million, funded by Next Generation EU under the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility.
