Institutions and the tourism sector highlight destination improvements driven by the Responsible Tourism Decree. The Government reinforces its fight against illegal street vending (top manta) through the Anti-Intrusion Committee, addressing illegal commercial activity and other forms of the underground economy comprehensively.

Councillor Bauzà encourages institutions to submit projects for the next ITS call.

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports hosted the meeting of the Monitoring Commission for the Responsible Tourism Decree, chaired by Councillor Jaume Bauzà and attended by representatives from island councils, affected municipalities, security forces, unions, employer associations and other organisations.

During the session, institutions carried out a joint assessment of the season in the areas covered by the decree, sharing analyses, requests and proposals to strengthen security, coexistence and the quality of tourism services.

Overall, participants agreed that the season was positive in terms of compliance, noting that the applied measures are effectively contributing to higher-quality destinations and helping consolidate a more responsible and orderly tourism model.

Awareness-raising in source markets was also highlighted as a key factor to ensure that tourists receive the message of responsible tourism before arriving on the islands.

The contribution from the Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS), amounting to 16 million euros, was recognised as crucial for advancing inspection, security, awareness campaigns and resource reinforcement in the areas covered by the decree.

One of the main concerns raised during the meeting was the top manta, due to its impact on coexistence and the perception of safety in tourist areas.

Councillor Bauzà recalled the creation of the Anti-Intrusion Committee, designed to tackle this issue comprehensively, including not only housing-related problems but also illegal commercial activity and other forms of underground economy.

He also encouraged institutions to submit projects in the upcoming ITS call, especially those aimed at improving coexistence between residents and visitors and enhancing destination quality. In addition, he invited municipalities to communicate any need to modify zoning to adapt measures to local realities.

The Commission will continue meeting regularly to monitor progress and assess upcoming needs for the next season.
