The tenth edition of the Creative Clothing Recycling Marathon began this Friday at TIRME’s Environmental Information and Education Centre. The initiative, organised by the Deixalles Foundation, ESDIB and several sustainability-focused institutions, aims to raise awareness—particularly among future designers—about the environmental impact of textile waste and the importance of reusing materials.
Margalida Roig, the island’s director of Waste Management, attended the opening ceremony and emphasised the value of giving unused garments a new life. She highlighted the event as an opportunity to combine creativity with environmental responsibility.

Tenth Creative Clothing Recycling Marathon kicks off to promote textile reuse
The activity consists of a nine-hour design marathon in which participants must create unique pieces using only garments from Deixalles’ selective textile collection system. All creations must be fully adjustable, suitable for different-sized mannequins, and, as an extra challenge, designers are not allowed to use zippers, encouraging them to develop alternative fastening solutions.
The jury —made up of representatives from ESDIB, the Deixalles Foundation, TIRME, fashion specialists and institutional members— will evaluate the designs based on creativity, quality of finishes, wearability, material optimisation and feasibility of reproducing the garments.
Celebrating its tenth anniversary, this edition continues to promote sustainable creativity among upcoming designers while increasing public awareness of textile reuse.
The competition offers prizes of €1,000, €600 and €400, and the award ceremony will take place on 21 November at 7:00 PM at the TIRME-CIAE visitors’ centre.
