Mallorca’s Responsible Tourism Foundation takes part in a European initiative that has supported 17 local SMEs with sustainability funding
The project, largely co-funded by the European Union with a total budget of €1.25 million, held its closing event this Friday at the Mallorca Chamber of Commerce. The day featured a full programme of talks and round-table discussions under the theme “Building a resilient and thriving tourism industry”, highlighting sustainable solutions within island tourism ecosystems.
The island’s Tourism Minister, José Marcial Rodríguez, delivered the closing remarks, emphasising the importance of initiatives like I-STARS to protect and regenerate the natural and cultural values that make Mallorca an exceptional place to live and visit. He stressed that private-sector collaboration is essential to advance towards a more responsible tourism model.
Rodríguez noted that the main goal of I-STARS is to strengthen and future-proof the tourism ecosystem, pointing out that the programme has provided direct support to SMEs located on islands across five countries: Spain, Cyprus, Greece, Ireland and Italy.
