The architecture for the future building will be selected through a competition judged by a professional panel, with prizes for the three best proposals. This initiative represents the first step toward defining the new facility, which will increase capacity and enhance care for dependent older adults.
The Ministry of Families, Social Welfare and Dependency Care has announced the architectural competition for the expansion of the Huialfàs public residence in Sa Pobla. The new building will be constructed on the plot adjacent to the current centre.
The competition is promoted by the Consorcio de Recursos Sociosanitarios y Asistenciales and the Institut Mallorquí d’Afers Socials (IMAS), and follows the recently signed cooperation protocol aimed at expanding and modernising the Huialfàs residence. The future facility will include areas adapted to a person-centred care model, featuring communal living spaces, therapeutic areas and services designed to reinforce residents’ autonomy and well-being.

The procedure includes prizes for the top three proposals, with a total budget of €12,000. The winning design may then be invited to draft the executive project through a negotiated procedure, the final step before construction begins.
This initiative aims to build a modern, sustainable public care network focused on the needs of dependent older adults.
