The Museu de l’Educació de les Illes Balears (MEIB), located in Pavilion 7 of Quarter General Luque in Inca, has launched its guided tour programme for schools this November. The initiative aims to bring students closer to the history of education in the Balearic Islands and to highlight the region’s rich pedagogical heritage.

The first visit was carried out by IES Josep Font i Tries from Esporles, with three groups of first-year secondary students. They toured the museum’s main spaces, including the Pedagogical Library, the permanent exhibition of educational objects and the reconstruction of a historic classroom.

Coinciding with the Fires d’Inca and the traditional Dijous Bo fair, twenty-five first-year students from CEIPiESO Ponent in Inca also took part in a guided visit. Throughout the activity, they were able to experience how teaching was carried out in past decades, explore historical educational materials and reflect on the evolution of the school system up to today.

Created by decree in 2001, the museum opened to the public last September after an extensive process of planning and preparation completed at the end of 2024. The project, supported by the Ministry of Education and Universities and IBISEC, aims to preserve and showcase the educational legacy of the Balearic Islands while providing a learning resource for the community.

The MEIB features a permanent exhibition of historical pedagogical furniture and materials, a library with more than 8,000 volumes, a hall for temporary exhibitions and a multipurpose room for educational activities. With the launch of these school visits, the museum reinforces its goal of becoming a dynamic space for learning, research and the promotion of educational heritage.
