The educational competition “11F: I Want to Be a Scientist Too” is celebrating its sixth edition, once again aiming to inspire scientific and technological curiosity among girls and young women. The initiative is held in connection with the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, observed on February 11, to promote female participation in scientific fields.
Organised by the Autonomous Secretariat for Educational Development through CEP IBSTEAM, the contest has become a well-established event in the school calendar across the Balearic Islands. Its objective is to encourage scientific vocations and highlight the essential contributions of women in science, offering young students meaningful role models.

The “11F: I Want to Be a Scientist Too” contest marks its sixth edition to inspire scientific careers among girls and young women
With the support of IBDONA and the 11F Balears Platform, the competition encourages schools to explore this topic within their educational communities. This year’s edition focuses on women scientists working in the food sector—researchers, technologists, and professionals who contribute through nutrition, biotechnology, food safety, and related disciplines to improve public health and overall well-being.
Schools may participate as entire class groups or smaller teams, depending on the selected category. The submission deadline is January 18, 2026, and the awards ceremony will take place on February 11, broadcast live through the IBSTEAM website.
With six editions completed, “I Want to Be a Scientist Too” has become a key initiative for promoting equal opportunities and increasing the visibility of women in the scientific community.
