Xarxa Forestal marks 20 years of wildfire awareness efforts with a roundtable discussion and an exhibition in Pollença

Xarxa Forestal, a long-standing initiative led by the regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Environment, celebrated its 20th anniversary with a special event held in Pollença. The programme included the opening of an exhibition showcasing a selection of winning posters from the Ni 1 Foc al Bosc! contest, organised in collaboration with the Rotger Villalonga Foundation and Tramuntana XXI, as well as a roundtable featuring contributors to the project.

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Environment, Joan Simonet, together with the Director for Natural Environment and Forest Management, Anna Torres, took part in the event. Simonet emphasised the importance of fostering forest values, promoting risk awareness and encouraging active forest management to safeguard natural areas across the islands.

Participants in the roundtable discussed the evolution of Xarxa Forestal over the past two decades and reflected on future challenges. Since its launch 20 years ago, the programme has carried out more than 5,000 awareness-raising activities, including educational workshops, talks, reforestation events, technical sessions and visits to IBANAT fire-fighting units. The 27 editions of the Ni 1 Foc al Bosc! The children’s poster contest has played a key role, and the selected posters now form the central theme of the anniversary exhibition. The display will remain open to the public from 18 to 23 November, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Rotger Villalonga Foundation in Pollença.

Looking ahead, IBANAT’s manager, Tomeu Llabrés, stated that the aim is to strengthen the project’s presence in all the Balearic Islands, improve wildfire risk awareness, and adapt the forest
