The Institut Mallorquí d’Afers Socials will allocate €100.6 million to its Social and Healthcare Department in 2026, an increase of nearly €7 million compared to the previous year. This expanded budget aims to modernise public care homes, expand the island’s network of day centres and continue supporting municipalities in improving services for older residents.

IMAS president Guillermo Sánchez highlighted that this financial boost will make it possible to upgrade both island-run and municipal facilities, ensuring they have sufficient resources to deliver dignified and high-quality care. He reiterated that supporting older adults remains a core priority for the institution.

IMAS Raises Its Budget to €100 Million to Strengthen Elderly Care Services Across Mallorca

Key initiatives include the opening of new day centres at the Miquel Mir residence in Inca and at Las Hermanitas de los Pobres, along with the activation of the second floor of Miquel Mir after a full renovation. These expansions will significantly increase public capacity for daytime support and strengthen specialised care provision.

The budget also reinforces municipal social services by increasing funding for residents by one million euros, consolidating last year’s allocation aimed at helping councils cover operational costs and improve service quality.

Additionally, the plan includes the renovation of the Llucmajor residence to align it with a person-centred care model, promoting safer, more comfortable environments. Improvements in IMAS facilities will also focus on climate control upgrades and the incorporation of staff dedicated to enhancing coexistence, emotional support and communication with families.

For 2026, the NutrIMAS program will also be implemented. This pioneering initiative will improve nutrition in public care homes by tailoring meals to the specific needs of each resident using unified professional criteria.

With this budget increase, IMAS reinforces a model of elderly care grounded in quality, personalised attention and strong community-based support, ensuring that dependent older adults in Mallorca receive the services they require under optimal conditions.
