The municipality of Ses Salines hosted this Saturday a full day dedicated to older adults during the second edition of the Fira de la Gent Gran, bringing together over 3,000 participants in an event centred on activity, community and wellbeing.

To ensure broad participation from all across the island, the Consell provided free buses for associations of older people, facilitating easy access to the event.

From 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Ses Salines became a lively meeting point filled with nearly fifty stands displaying handicrafts and works created by seniors from different municipalities. The programme featured a wide range of physical activities, including yoga, Pilates, stretching, slingshot shooting, traditional games and multiple dance styles such as sevillanas, line dancing, ball de bot, world dances, Fit Dance and ballroom dance. Creative workshops included neurographic drawing, tailoring, bobbin lace-making, and exhibitions of traditional neules and models created in residential centres. The celebration also included the Santa Cecilia concert performed by the Coral Son Dameto.

The President of the Consell de Mallorca highlighted that the fair “shows the island’s commitment to its older population, who have built today’s Mallorca”, emphasising the importance of providing spaces where they feel valued, active and central. The Minister for the Presidency, Toni Fuster, stressed that the fair “is a way to recognise, through concrete actions, everything this group contributes to society” and pointed out that training activities in health, technology and wellbeing have been strengthened.

A programme of specialised conferences was delivered throughout the day by professionals from Civil Protection, the 112 emergency service, the 061 health emergency service, the Fire Brigade of the Consell de Mallorca, and official colleges linked to physiotherapy, physical education, nutrition and active ageing. Topics included artificial intelligence applied to ageing, fire prevention, emergency response, physiotherapy, physical exercise and the Mediterranean diet. One of the most popular activities was the Truc Tournament, organised by the association Som Truc.
