A new physical-activity programme designed for cancer patients undergoing treatment or recovery has begun operating at the Sant Ferran Sports Centre, following a cooperation agreement between the Consell de Mallorca and the Spanish Association Against Cancer in the Balearic Islands. The initiative expands the existing Oncological Exercise Programme and now includes a dedicated area within the council’s sports facilities.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Vice President and Councillor for Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports, Pedro Bestard; the Island Sports Director, Toni Prats; the president of the association, José Reyes; and the representative of Yes With Cancer, Manuel Martínez. The agreement reinforces the commitment to using exercise as a complementary therapeutic tool for people affected by cancer.

Bestard highlighted the institution’s intention to integrate exercise prescription into Mallorca’s public-health strategies, noting that in various countries, physical activity is already recommended as part of medical treatment. The programme offers supervised sessions aimed at improving cardiovascular fitness, correcting posture issues, reducing relapse risks and preventing additional conditions such as osteoporosis or cardiovascular disease, while helping patients regain strength after chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

Those wishing to join the programme may contact the association’s social worker, Yanina Paglioni, either directly or via Yes With Cancer, through the Infocáncer helpline (900 100 036) or by email at yanina.paglioni@contraelcancer.es.
