The Ministry of Families, Social Welfare and Dependency Care has updated the Consell de Govern on the steps being taken to implement the Barnahus model throughout the Balearic Islands. This integrated system, designed to support children and adolescents who are victims of sexual violence, focuses on coordinated, comprehensive care delivered in a single, child-friendly setting to prevent further trauma.

The Ministry of Families briefs the Consell de Govern on the rollout of the Barnahus model across the Balearic Islands

As part of the Balearic Observatory for Childhood and Adolescence, a dedicated working group will be created to guide the rollout of the model, develop a unified protocol and coordinate the establishment of at least one Barnahus centre on each island. These centres will operate under the functional responsibility of the island councils, with technical coordination provided by the regional government.

Barnahus —an Icelandic term meaning “children’s house”— brings together judicial, health, social, educational and protection services under one roof. By centralising all necessary interventions, it reduces the number of interviews a child must undergo, improves the quality of judicial evidence and ensures faster, more coordinated therapeutic support. The model ultimately places the child’s well-being at the centre and strengthens early detection of violence.
