The Government of the Balearic Islands, the island councils, employers’ organisations, trade unions and other entities have held a new working session to continue defining the measures that will guide the region toward a more sustainable and efficient development model.

The Ministry of Labour, Public Administration and Social Dialogue continues to advance the Sustainability Pact, in a meeting chaired by Minister Catalina Cabrer, together with the Director-General for Social Dialogue and Economic Transition, José Antonio Caldés. Also present were the Director-General of Mobility, Lorena del Valle; the Director-General of Industry and Industrial Estates, Alfons Gómez; the Director-General of Business, Self-Employment and Trade, Pedrona Seguí, along with representatives from CAEB, the Transport Federation, the Mallorca Hotel Federation, PIME Balears, UGT, CCOO, Asaja, ASIMA, FELIB and the island councils.

🔹 Strategies to transform labour mobility

New lines of action were presented, aimed at reshaping mobility and moving towards a more efficient, safer and environmentally respectful model. The Directorate-General for Social Dialogue and Economic Transition is currently working with 37 proposals, including labour mobility plans for tourism companies and industrial estates.

Sustainability Pact meetings move forward with a focus on mobility, beach monitoring and energy

These plans aim to:

  • Improve workers’ daily commuting
  • Reduce the environmental impact of mobility
  • Enhance safety and health during work-related travel
  • Promote shared transport and coordinated action between the administration and businesses

🔹 Public transport improvements in three stages

The ministry also outlined measures already underway and those planned to strengthen public transport:

  • Short term: continuation of the 50% expansion of interurban transport, increased frequencies and a larger bus fleet.
  • Medium term: development of intermodality and new rail services.
  • Long term: expansion of train and metro lines, consolidating a public transport system capable of competing with private vehicle use.

🔹 Next sessions: beach monitoring and energy transition

The upcoming working session, scheduled for Wednesday, will examine the beach monitoring project recently implemented in Calvià —an innovative initiative that demonstrates how technology can improve the management of public spaces and support safer use of coastal areas.

The last meeting of the week, planned for Thursday, will focus on energy transition strategies and new measures to promote a more circular and efficient production model.
