The Mallorcan company JATOVital has won the top award at the Art Jove Young Theatre Creation Contest, organised by the Balearic Youth Institute (IBJOVE), with its production ‘Sacrificció’. The award includes €3,000 in cash and an additional €3,000 to fund two performances —one at Fira B! and another at the Teatre Principal de Palma.
The final took place this weekend at the Maruja Alfaro Municipal Theatre (Mar i Terra) in Palma, with the director of IBJOVE, Tomàs Amer, in attendance. Two productions were granted the second prize ex aequo:
- ‘Chin chín’, by the Menorcan company La Vaca Company, and
- ‘A la colònia penal’, by the Mallorcan company Ínsula.
Each company will receive €1,500.
🔹 A competition marked by high artistic standards
The jury, chaired by playwright and director Marga Arrom, highlighted the difficulty of choosing the winners due to the outstanding quality of the finalist proposals. The panel also included Victoria Verger (Institute of Balearic Studies), dramaturge Bernat Molina —who advised the finalists— and actresses Camila Grigera and Àngela Tortajada, winners of the 2023 edition.

‘Sacrificció’, by the Mallorcan company JATOVital, wins first prize at the Art Jove Young Theatre Creation Contest
Each company presented a 20–30 minute excerpt of its work, with the contest held in collaboration with Palma City Council.
🔹 About the awarded productions
‘Sacrificció’, written and performed by Lluís Sánchez Oliver with lighting design by Marina Coll, is described as a symbolic, immersive stage ritual. The jury praised its boldness and unsettling power.
The two second-prize winners also stood out for their originality:
- ‘A la colònia penal’: a free adaptation of Kafka directed by Jan Marsol and performed by Karen Codina, Sabrina Frías and Marina Lapiedra, exploring structures of power and violence through theatrical absurdism.
- ‘Chin chín’: a tragicomedy created and performed by Annët Batlles, set in a dreamlike universe that delves into social and family dynamics.
