The Island Council of Menorca has announced a comprehensive update of the signage along the Camí de Cavalls. The initiative includes replacing the 20 stage-starting boards and acquiring a large stock of directional, informational and identification signs to improve the maintenance of the historic trail.
The new materials will enable maintenance teams to quickly replace any deteriorated or damaged elements, ensuring faster and more effective management. This renovation covers the entire 185-kilometre route of the GR-223 and aims to enhance safety, provide clearer information and ensure consistent visual communication after more than 15 years of continuous exposure to weather conditions.
The order includes:
- 554 directional signs (CN-03)
- 82 location signs (CN-05)
- 92 informational signs (CN-07)
- 24 regulatory signs (CN-08)
- 52 environmental interpretation signs (CN-09)
In addition, the supply includes 2,000 white identification plates for wooden markers and 300 screen-printed metal plates, elements prone to deterioration due to weather or vandalism. Auxiliary equipment, such as wooden tables and bicycle racks, is also part of the contract, following the Natural Pathways Programme’s standards.

Menorca to Renew All Signage Along the Camí de Cavalls
The updated signage incorporates design improvements, corrected place names and distance information, as well as new references to protected areas and the Natura 2000 Network. English content and QR codes linking to extended information on the official Camí de Cavalls website have also been added.
The project has a total cost of €177,587.27, financed with European Union Next Generation funds through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
Environment councillor Simón Gornés emphasised that the renewal marks “a significant step toward ensuring clear, safe and up-to-date signage along the entire Camí de Cavalls,” reinforcing Menorca’s commitment to conservation and responsible public use.
