CSMIB welcomes double bassist Ángela Contreras as part of the Excellentia programme

Born in Bogotá, Contreras graduated from the National University of Colombia’s Conservatory of Music and was a member of the Orchestra of the Americas, performing under maestros such as Carlos Miguel Prieto and Valery Gergiev. She later completed her master’s degree at The Juilliard School under Eugene Levinson and made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2013. Her career also includes appearances at major festivals, including the Pacific Music Festival in Japan.

Since 2015, she has been a key member of the double bass section of the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, one of the world’s most acclaimed symphonic ensembles. In addition to her performing career, she is actively involved in music education and has been collaborating with Fundación Azteca in Mexico since 2022, supporting the training of young musicians.

The Excellentia programme aims to provide highly specialised training and international exposure for CSMIB students through sessions led by world-class performers and educators. With initiatives like this, the conservatory reinforces its commitment to academic excellence and international outreach.

Attendance to this masterclass is free and open to all.
