The Regional Ministry of Education and Universities has reached an initial agreement to pay the outstanding 2.9% salary increase owed to teachers in state-funded private schools for the years 2020 and 2021. This adjustment will also affect subsequent years.

During the meeting of the Private State-Funded Education Committee, the Ministry proposed splitting the payment—around 15 million euros—into two phases: the first in 2026 and the second in 2027, subject to budget availability. The draft agreement also includes a clause allowing for earlier payment if financial conditions permit.

This preliminary understanding follows several negotiation rounds with unions and employer associations. The proposal was presented earlier this week by Minister Antoni Vera and was finalised today in a new session attended by the Secretary for Educational Development, Mateu Suñer; the Director General of Teaching Staff and State-Funded Schools, Joana Maria Cabrer; and the Secretary General, Bartomeu Riera.

Education Reaches Initial Agreement to Restore the Pending 2.9% Salary Increase for Teachers in State-Funded Private Schools

The agreement will be signed in the coming days by unions and employer representatives and later submitted to the Consell de Govern for approval, enabling the restitution of the 2.9% salary increase to teachers in state-funded private schools across the Balearic Islands.

The measure will benefit around 5,000 teachers, including retired staff affected by the wage freeze. This aligns the situation with public-school teachers, who have been receiving the restored 2.9% since September, following a ruling by the High Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands.

The regional government affirms that this decision reflects its commitment to social agreements and acknowledges the dedication of professionals within the concerted education system.
