The Ministry of Education and Universities will allocate more than €534,000 to strengthen the training of future university teaching staff in the fields of medicine and nursing, to reinforce health-related studies and increase the number of accredited lecturers in the Balearic Islands.

The Consell de Govern has approved the prior authorisation required to process the 100% advance payment of the multi-year grants included in the FPU-MEIN CAIB 2026 call. These grants cover both research training within doctoral programmes and academic fees, and they address the structural shortage of accredited staff in these areas at the University of the Balearic Islands.

The advance payment is essential to ensure that the University has sufficient resources from the outset to finance the contracts associated with the programme, guaranteeing the continuity of academic and research activity.

The initiative aims to safeguard the quality of university teaching in health sciences, a key factor for the verification and renewal of official degrees, in a context where the regional healthcare system faces a high demand for qualified professionals.

For the first time, these grants will have a specific and independent call, separate from other areas with shortages of accredited teachers. Alongside the traditional predoctoral profile, a clinical profile will be introduced for applicants who combine their doctoral research with clinical practice.

This measure strengthens the commitment to high-quality university education, solid research development, and improved healthcare provision. The FPU-MEIN programme complements existing national and regional initiatives and represents a firm step toward ensuring the sustainability of the university system and meeting the needs of the healthcare sector.
