The symbolic groundbreaking ceremony has marked the start of work on the future Early Childhood and Primary Education Centre of Felanitx, to be built on a plot provided by the Town Council along the Son Proenç road.
The event was attended by representatives from the regional education department and the municipality, including Antoni Vera, Minister of Education and Universities; Mateu Suñer, Secretary for Educational Development; and Catalina Soler, Mayor of Felanitx, together with members of the local council.
The new facility will accommodate 450 students and include seven specialised places for the Special Education Unit in Ordinary Schools (UEECO). It will be a two-line school, with six Early Childhood classrooms and twelve Primary Education classrooms.

Construction begins on the new Felanitx school, designed to accommodate 450 students
The works have been awarded to Bigas Grup, S.L. for an amount of €6,712,549.02, with an estimated construction period of 18 months.
The project includes a main building with a ground floor and two upper floors. The ground floor will house Early Childhood classrooms, the psychomotricity room, the UEECO classroom, support spaces and technical areas. The upper floors will contain the Primary Education classrooms, library, computer room, staff room, music and arts classrooms, a multipurpose room and small-group workspaces.
A second single-storey block will accommodate the administrative services —reception, secretary’s office, headship, and family support— and a third building will include storage areas, outdoor restrooms and the gym changing rooms.
During the ceremony, it was highlighted that this new infrastructure is part of the Illes en Transformació initiative and will help address local educational needs by relieving pressure on CEIP Inspector Joan Capó, currently the school with the highest enrolment in the Balearic Islands.
Additionally, the Consell de Govern has approved the creation of CEIP Nou de Felanitx, which will begin operating in the 2026–2027 school year with two Early Childhood units temporarily located at CEIP Inspector Joan Capó, functioning as an extension of that centre.
This development reinforces the commitment to high-quality public education and to infrastructure planning that ensures suitable learning environments. The new Felanitx school represents an important step toward meeting the real needs of the local educational community.
