The Department of Presidency has established the first coordination platform bringing together municipalities and social organisations, marking a significant milestone in the rollout of the Mallorca Island Volunteer Plan aimed at strengthening volunteer policies across the island.
During the inaugural meeting of the Municipal Volunteer Coordination Space, the head of the department, Toni Fuster, announced the creation of Mallorca’s first dedicated funding programme for volunteer projects, which will be launched in 2026.
This funding call, valued at €160,000, will be open to both associations and municipalities and will be divided into two separate funding lines, ensuring that local councils have access to their own resources to promote volunteer initiatives for the first time.

A coordinated island-wide strategy
More than thirty organisations took part in the meeting of the Volunteer Organisations Forum, held the previous day. Both bodies form part of the Island Plan approved in plenary session and now in active implementation.
Fuster explained that Mallorca previously lacked a centralised volunteer structure:
“This Plan provides a common framework that improves coordination and makes actions more effective across the island.”
He also highlighted the need for training, resources and dedicated support tools, all of which will be reinforced through this plan.
Assessment and new support tools
To design this strategy, officials visited 38 organisations and 37 municipalities since April to gather updated information on local needs. The main issues identified include a lack of training, insufficient spaces and the need for staff specialised in volunteer management.
In response, work has begun on an island-wide resource catalogue offering spaces, trainers and support tools. Initial training sessions have also started, including one focused on volunteering in feline colonies.
