The labour market of the Balearic Islands continued to show strong performance in November, closing the month with 524,014 people registered with Social Security, the highest figure ever recorded for this period and a 2.8% increase compared to 2023. This means 14,150 more people are working than one year ago.

Catalina Cabrer, the Minister of Labour, Public Administration and Social Dialogue, highlighted that the figures confirm the region’s ability to create employment even beyond the high tourist season.
Employment increases across all islands
All four islands recorded notable growth in affiliation:
- Mallorca: 456,290 (+4.5%)
- Menorca: 33,032 (+4.3%)
- Ibiza: 64,964 (+6.5%)
- Formentera: 3,795 (+7.0%)
Positive results across all economic sectors
Employment grew in every sector:
- Agriculture: +1.3%
- Industry: +1.6%
- Construction: +2.6%
- Services: +3.2% (driven by commerce +1.2%, hospitality +2.5%, and other services +4.0%)
Self-employment also expanded to 102,696 registered workers, a 2.1% annual increase.
Long-term unemployment decreases
November ended with 121,282 jobseekers and 30,219 registered unemployed people, representing a 3.4% drop compared to the previous year.
Long-term unemployment fell by 5.7%, a key indicator of structural improvement in employability.
Balearics lead Spain in permanent hiring
Even though fewer contracts were signed (23,835, a 2.5% decrease), the islands remain the national leader in job stability:
64.8% of all contracts were permanent, far above the Spanish average (41.3%).
Both temporary employment (8.2%) and part-time employment (13.6%) remain among the lowest in the country, pointing to a more stable and higher-quality labour market.
