The Balearic Water and Environmental Quality Agency has launched the tendering process for the construction of the new submarine outfall at the Binidalí wastewater treatment plant, located in the municipality of Maó. Alongside the main works, the agency is also putting out to bid the technical supervision, inspection, monitoring and safety-coordination services, forming a package valued at more than 2.2 million euros.
The project will complete a key missing component of the facility, whose main infrastructure was finished over a decade ago but has remained inactive due to the absence of the underwater pipeline needed to carry treated water safely out to sea.
Once operational, the system will make full use of the existing network and improve wastewater management for the coastal residential areas connected to the Maó and Sant Lluís sanitation systems.

Public Tender Opens for the Construction of the New Submarine Outfall at the Binidalí Wastewater Plant
The new outfall design includes the link to the existing onshore pipeline, the installation of additional conduits, and a layout combining directed horizontal drilling with a section laid on the seabed, ending in a diffuser positioned at nearly thirty metres deep.
A separate tender covers the technical oversight and monitoring of the works, with an execution period of eleven months. Both initiatives will be financed through the sanitation levy, enhancing environmental protection along the Menorcan coastline and completing a vital infrastructure for the Binidalí area.
