Bestard emphasised “the excellent work carried out by our department, as restoring this path allows us to complete a key stretch to ensure the continuity of the GR-221 route, which extends from Port d’Andratx to Port de Pollença”.

During the tour, Minister Bestard was accompanied by the mayor of Deià, Joan Ripoll; the Island Director of Environment, Luis Rubí; the Island Director of Tourism for Governance and Sustainability, Pedro Mas; and the coordinator of the Dry Stone and Hiking Unit, Antoni Reynés, along with technical staff.

Section of Stage 3: Esporles – Can Boi

These works form part of the maintenance project for the margins of stage 3, specifically the section near the Es Paranys gate.

The restored path covers 550 meters and runs through olive-growing terrain between the Ses Rotes well and the holm oak woodland, all within the municipality of Deià. The dry-stone work involved rehabilitating 20 retaining walls, amounting to a total of 220 square meters.

The project has been funded through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and falls within the programme for restoring non-motorised routes and improving facilities at refuges and recreational areas, as part of the wider initiative to recover mountain pathways.

The Ruta de Pedra en Sec or GR-221 is a long-distance trail that crosses the Serra de Tramuntana from Port d’Andratx to Port de Pollença, following a network of ancient stone-paved paths, many of which have already been restored in previous projects.
