The start of the festive season has been marked with a wide programme of cultural, family-oriented and solidarity-based activities running until 6 January.
The Christmas lights of the Palau were switched on by President Llorenç Galmés, joined by children from Amiticia, a non-profit organisation founded in 1988 dedicated to supporting people with functional diversity and minors at risk of social exclusion. The event featured children’s entertainment by Trencaclosques, performances by the children’s choirs of the Teatre Principal and Sant Francesc, and a concert by the Children’s Band of the Balearic Band Federation.
A highlight of the evening was the opening of the nativity scene created by the Mallorca Nativity Scene Association. Once again, the display occupies a central space in the Palau’s Christmas décor, surrounding the main staircase. It will remain open to visitors from 10:00 to 20:00 until 6 January. Guests were also treated to a traditional hot chocolate.

President Galmés remarked that the switching-on ceremony «is always a special moment that marks the beginning of weeks filled with tradition, culture and reunions across the island». He also highlighted the extensive festive programme prepared for this year, designed to celebrate Mallorcan culture and traditions while welcoming everyone.
