The initiative is open to secondary and high school students from all educational centres in the Balearic Islands.

As part of the commemorations marking 150 years since the publication of the iconic poem Lo pi de Formentor, a new school contest bearing the same name has been announced. The competition aims to bring Mallorcan literature closer to younger generations and to encourage creativity within the educational community.

The event, scheduled for 2026, will include three categories:

  • Drawing, for students in the first two years of secondary school.
  • Narrative writing, for students in the third and fourth years.
  • Poetry, aimed at first- and second-year baccalaureate students.

Awards will be granted in all categories, and teachers who support the students’ projects will also receive recognition.

The official guidelines will be delivered to schools in January, detailing the submission deadlines, the required formats for artwork and texts, and the prizes for each category.

The Costa i Llobera Year—promoted by cultural institutions such as the Consell de Mallorca and the Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics—seeks to reinforce the appreciation of the Balearic Islands’ literary heritage. The contest aspires to inspire young people and honour one of the most influential poets of the region.
