A total of 246 vehicles will be deployed across the islands starting 10 December.
Beginning on 10 December, a phased deployment of the new fleet of urgent and scheduled ambulances will take place throughout the Balearic Islands. The initiative represents an investment of €55,996,880.64, covering 246 vehicles under a five-year leasing contract that includes maintenance and insurance.
The fleet has been designed by technical professionals to meet the evolving needs of patients. The vehicles incorporate significant improvements for both users and staff, along with new models that address operational and care-related demands.

🚑 Upgrades for urgent medical transport. Rollout of the new fleet of urgent and scheduled ambulance units begins
The emergency ambulances feature advanced technology, including:
- Automatic transmission
- Stretcher mounts with hydropneumatic suspension
- Enhanced climate control
- Updated air filtration and disinfection systems
🚐 Enhancements for scheduled medical transport
For the first time in Spain, the entire non-urgent fleet will be equipped with electric stretchers, improving patient safety and reducing physical strain on personnel.
More ambulances now include hydraulic lifts to better serve patients using wheelchairs. Additional features include video monitoring systems and redesigned interiors for improved comfort and accessibility.
These upgrades position the region as a leader in ground medical transport at national and international levels.
📍 Distribution across the islands
In total, 116 urgent-care units and 130 scheduled transport vehicles will be deployed:
- Mallorca: 169 (76 urgent, 93 scheduled)
- Menorca: 35 (18 urgent, 17 scheduled)
- Ibiza: 38 (19 urgent, 19 scheduled)
- Formentera: 4 (3 urgent, 1 scheduled)
The contract incorporates 27 additional vehicles compared to the previous fleet, including:
- A paediatric ambulance with expanded space
- Three vehicles prepared for ECMO transport
- A mobile pharmacy unit
- Pickups for difficult terrain
- Logistics support vehicles for mass-casualty incidents
🛠️ Increased reserve units
The new fleet replaces ambulances that were largely over seven or eight years old and prone to breakdowns. More reserve vehicles will now be available to ensure uninterrupted service at all times.
