A total of 450 participants from the Autonomy Promotion Centres (CPAP) managed by the IMAS (Mallorcan Institute of Social Affairs) gathered at the Sant Josep residence for a festive event held in celebration of the Christmas season. The meeting brought together all seven centres in a day filled with creativity, music and shared experiences.
The event was attended by Mallorca’s president, Llorenç Galmés, together with the Minister of Social Welfare and IMAS president Guillermo Sánchez, IMAS vice-president, Magdalena García Gual, the Island Director of Community Care and Autonomy Promotion, Catalina Maria Mascaró, and the Island Director of Social and Health Care, Rosa Llobera.
Each centre presented a selection of the projects completed throughout the year, including Christmas cards, ceramics, paintings, plant crafts and other creative works. The gathering also featured Christmas carols performed by the choirs of CPAP Llar Avinguda Argentina, Llar de Felanitx and Llar de Manacor. The day concluded with a hot-chocolate celebration open to all attendees.

During his remarks, Galmés highlighted that CPAPs are «essential spaces where older adults find community, motivation and opportunities to strengthen their emotional, social and physical wellbeing». He stressed that each activity helps reinforce self-esteem, health and social bonds.
IMAS currently operates seven centres across Mallorca: Can Real (Petra), Son Bru (Puigpunyent), Llar de Manacor, Llar de Felanitx, Llar Avinguda Argentina, Llar Reina Sofia and Sant Josep. The president also expressed his gratitude to both the users for their energy and to the professional teams whose dedication makes these centres a vital part of the island’s support network for active ageing.
The CPAP network offers artistic, cultural, cognitive and physical activities, as well as counselling, podiatry, a library, digital classrooms and technology training. They are open to people aged 60 and over, or 55 and over in the case of pension or benefit recipients, as well as their partners.
