Around 130 elderly residents from the Reina Sofía, HRA Cas Serres and Sa Residència care homes will have the chance to enjoy Eivissa’s Christmas lights on December 18, 19 and 20, thanks to the solidarity initiative “Un Nadal, un somriure” (“A Christmas, a Smile”).
The programme is led by the Eivissa Taxi Guild with the support of the Eivissa Island Council, the City Council and several other municipalities. Towns such as Sant Antoni and Santa Eulària are also taking part by organising outings and festive snacks for residents from Sa Serra and Can Blai. The Eivissa Volunteers Association will provide staff to accompany the elderly throughout the tour.
Marilina Bonet, Island Director of Social Welfare, highlighted that the aim is to bring the festive spirit closer to older people so they can experience “joyful and meaningful celebrations”. She thanked the taxi sector and volunteers for their commitment, adding that Llar Eivissa will host a hot chocolate break before the tours.

Around 130 Elderly Residents in Eivissa Will Enjoy the Christmas Lights Thanks to Solidarity Taxi Drivers
Eivissa’s Councillor for Senior Citizens, Sara Barbado, praised the solidarity shown by local taxi drivers, noting that the initiative allows older residents to enjoy Christmas in a comfortable and fully accessible way.
According to Lolo Ruiz, spokesperson for Élite Corsaris Eivissa, the idea took inspiration from similar initiatives on the mainland. This year, over 30 taxi drivers are participating, including five adapted taxis to ensure accessibility.
Each route will begin at Llar Eivissa with hot chocolate, followed by a tour of some of the city’s most iconic illuminated streets: Santa Eulària Avenue, the port area, Mercat Vell, Bartomeu Rosselló Avenue, Isidor Macabich Avenue, Ignasi Wallis Avenue and Avenida España. Afterwards, participants will be driven back to their residences.
