Ibiza has strengthened its Christmas campaign with a promotional event focused on local products and traditional gastronomy, held at the Mercat Nou in the island’s capital. The initiative featured a tasting of squid with sobrasada, highlighting the characteristic flavours that form the basis of Ibiza’s traditional recipes and take on special significance during the Christmas season.
The event aimed to underline the importance of sharing meals with family and friends during the festive period, while reinforcing the close connection between gastronomy, local traditions, and the territory.
During the presentation, the Island Councillor for Economic Promotion, Maria Fajarnés, emphasised the importance of supporting local producers and promoting seasonal cuisine, noting that it reflects the island’s roots and stands out for its quality and flavour. She also pointed out that autumn is an ideal time to recognise the value of products from both land and sea, and to preserve the gastronomic heritage that defines Ibiza.

Meanwhile, Sara Barbado, representative of the Ibiza Town Council, stressed the need to continue working in coordination to strengthen the role of municipal markets and local commerce, which she described as the heart of the island’s gastronomic and cultural identity. She highlighted that products grown, raised, and processed in Ibiza deserve a strong and visible platform, and reaffirmed the commitment to continue promoting initiatives that recognise the work of local producers, farmers, and retailers.
Both representatives agreed that the success of the recent Fira de Sabors, held in Vara de Rey, clearly demonstrates growing public interest in discovering and consuming local products, as well as increased cohesion within the sector. This positive response confirms the importance of maintaining policies that support and strengthen Ibiza’s commercial and gastronomic fabric.
The event showcased two emblematic products of Ibiza’s cuisine, squid and sobrasada, prepared live by chef Pere Tur, owner of the restaurant Sa Nansa. This classic combination from the local culinary tradition allowed attendees to enjoy an authentic flavour deeply rooted in the island’s heritage.
The event also highlighted the essential role of the primary sector, with the participation of the Fishermen’s Guilds, which guarantee the origin and quality of seafood through the Peix Nostrum quality label, and the Carn & Coop Livestock Cooperative, together with local butcher shops Can Ros and Es Cucó, suppliers of pork raised in Ibiza, a key ingredient in traditional slaughterhouse products.
The Island Councillor concluded by encouraging residents to continue choosing local products and to make the flavours of Ibiza the centrepiece of their Christmas tables, reminding everyone that behind each dish lies the dedication and hard work of local producers, fishermen, and artisans who keep the island’s culinary identity alive.
