Health authorities have confirmed three new cases of African swine fever (ASF) in wild boar found within the control area of the initial outbreak detected in Catalonia. The animals were located near Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona), close to previously reported cases.

With these new detections, the total number of infected wild boar has risen to 16. At the same time, more than one hundred carcasses found in natural environments, roads and railway lines in and around the affected area have been tested, all of which returned negative results.

These findings are the result of an extensive surveillance operation involving multiple agencies. The measures include systematic searches for wild boar carcasses, monitoring of restricted access zones, and the disinfection of vehicles and individuals entering or leaving the affected areas.

Official veterinary services continue to carry out inspections and sampling in pig farms located within the high-risk zone, defined as a 20-kilometre radius from the outbreak. To date, all inspected farms remain free from the disease.

Authorities at both national and regional levels stress the importance of maintaining strict biosecurity measures, both in livestock holdings and in the management of wild boar populations, to prevent further spread of the virus.
